Atlanta, Georgia, November 1, 2025 — Atlanta city officials announced on 1 November the launch of a pioneering pilot programme utilising blockchain technology to track absentee ballots in the upcoming 2025 municipal elections. The initiative, developed in partnership with local technology firms and civic groups, aims to provide voters with a secure and transparent method to monitor the status of their mailed ballots from submission to final counting.
Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms described the project as a “significant step forward in building public trust and participation in the electoral process.” The blockchain system will generate a unique, anonymised tracking code for each absentee ballot, allowing voters to verify receipt and processing in real time through a dedicated online portal.
City election officials highlighted that the pilot will be available to all absentee voters in the 4 March municipal election. The programme is expected to streamline ballot verification, reduce administrative delays, and offer a model for future digital election innovations across Georgia.
