San Diego Architecture and Design Firm is the Only San Diego Company to Receive a 2019 National CotY Award

SAN DIEGO, CA, April 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ — Jackson Design and Remodeling (JDR) announced today it has won another major award for a custom home in Ocean Beach that utilizes the principles of universal design. With minimalist architecture, open space planning, and gorgeous ocean views, the contemporary “Ocean View Minimalism” home claimed top honors at the National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s (NARI) 2019 Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards ceremony, which took place on Friday, April 12 in San Diego. JDR is the only San Diego company to win a national CotY award.

With the national trend of homeowners choosing to “age in place” in their existing homes, JDR — and its team of Certified Aging in Place professionals – have become experts in the field of universal design, which marries functionality with high-end design. The CotY award comes on the heels of another Universal Design award the home received from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

“We are thrilled to be recognized with a National CotY award for integrating thoughtful universal design into a beautiful home,” said JDR President and CEO Todd Jackson. “Our talented team transformed an ordinary home into a bold expression of highly contemporary minimalist design with our client’s needs in mind every step of the way. The space is now precisely tailored to their lifestyle today and anticipated in the future.”

Each year, contractors from seven regions around the country vie for regional CotY awards, with winners advancing to the highly competitive national awards program. Industry leaders and peers regard CotY awards as among the most prestigious. Over 50 JDR projects have been honored with CotY awards for 12 consecutive years. An impartial panel of 26 industry experts judged this year’s entries based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty.

Universal Design: Ocean View Minimalism
This custom home near the ocean was built for a retired couple with a strategically considered design plan and thoughtful elements that will make it easier to age in place while surrounded by beautiful contemporary, minimalist design. The exterior balances contrasting materials – stucco, corrugated metal, and porcelain tile with the appearance of wood plank. Carefully composed horizontal shapes create compelling curb appeal. Inside, the highly contemporary minimalist architecture emphasizes simplicity and clean horizontal lines, with a subtle color palette and restrained details. Bold yet simple, this custom home was meticulously designed and built with the close collaboration of the clients to dramatically enhance their lifestyles today and into the future.
